The Troubling Decline of Dumfries Conservation Area — And How You Can See It for Yourself
If you've walked through Dumfries Conservation Area recently, you may have noticed something isn't right. Areas that have not been maintained for years. Why has the Grand River Conservation Authority (GRCA) given up on it being a family friendly area.
I've lived in this area for 32 years. Over the last five years, I've spent countless hours, including six months of investigating, walking, documenting, and researching exactly what has happened to Dumfries Conservation Area, and why.
What I found is deplorable. And I don't think I should be the only one who's seen it.
Why I'm Hosting a Free Walking Tour
Numbers and descriptions only go so far. I wanted to give people in this community the chance to walk the land themselves, see the neglect up close, and draw their own conclusions, before I release the full findings of my research.
So on Saturday, September 19, 2026, I'll be leading two free walking tours through Dumfries Conservation Area:
- 10:00 a.m.
- 12:30 p.m.
Each tour will take you through the areas most affected by the decline I've documented, with context on what the area used to look like, what's changed, and what the GRCA's own records and actions (or lack of them) reveal.
